Day 28

Marvel--God Created Everything Including the Universe!

Seventh-day Devotional

January 28—No More Blues!

Reflection

Our God is all-powerful—a fact that slips readily off our tongues, a fact we have neatly catalogued in our minds. And yet it's a fact we seldom realize in our daily lives. So many times, we’re so busy trying to solve our own problems that we fail to draw on the power of God we’ve seen in this past week’s reading. He sent amazing plagues on Egypt, prompting the release of his people. He parted the Red Sea, enabling the millions of Israelites to cross on dry land. He provided for every need on the journey through the wilderness, despite the constant complaints of the people. And he set forth his ways through the Law given through Moses and the plans for the Tabernacle.

Let’s pause and contemplate the omnipotent God, the master of the universe and our loving Father.

Cure the Blues

Psalm 8 ought to be required reading for anyone suffering the “Monday morning blue.” If you can read it without getting emotionally involved, then you haven’t had your morning coffee yet!

Perhaps, the young shepherd boy David wrote this psalm as he tended his sheep one crisp, cloudless Judean night. Pondering the greatness of God’s creation as seen around him, David exclaims, “O Lord, our God, the splendor and glory of your name fills all the earth and overflows the heavens.” The glorious God of creation is worthy to be adored by everything on earth, beginning with “the little children.”

But overwhelmed by the thought of a God who can create mighty galaxies at the snap of his fingers (8:3), David wonders why God would even be concerned about frail, insignificant men. And yet, his loving concern is clearly evident! In fact, he has shared that incomparable glory and power with men, crowning them “with glory and honor” (8:5) and giving them “dominion over the works of his hands” (8:6). Is it any wonder David closes the Psalm by repeating the same words, but with new conviction: “O Jehovah, our Lord, the splendor and glory of your name fills the earth”?

When was the last time you counted your blessings from God? Spend the next few minutes counting all the things that God has provided for you: family, health, security, possessions, and a home in heaven. Then close your time of thanksgiving by reading Psalm 8 out loud to God.

Prayer

Almighty God and loving Father, how often we fail to appreciate your greatness. Your name is splendor in all the earth! And as we’ve seen that fact evidenced in the pages of your word, our fears and worries shrivel to nothing, because our trust grows stronger in you. Lord, help us keep our eyes on you for only then can we walk ahead with strong steps, hand in hand with you, in Jesus name amen!

People are the Crown--the Best of all God Created!
