Day 207

God's Comfort! |
Scripture
Observation
Perhaps by now you are growing weary of reading a message of judgment every day from the book of Isaiah. (No doubt the people of Judah were!) But chapter 40 breaks through the gloom. Comfort and consolation are coming! God's judgment, though severe, will one day end. God's people can rest assured that the Maker of heaven and earth will restore the nation he has chosen to call his own.
Application
There's nothing that can quite compare with the thrill of being chosen for a special position. Out of the many possible candidates for the job, someone reached down and selected you! It makes you feel important and special, and in the eyes of the one who chose you, you are special. Otherwise, he would have picked someone else.
Is it any wonder the nation of Israel could find comfort and security in the knowledge that God had selected them for a unique role in history! They were his chosen people, destined to be the instrument through which God would bring the Messiah into the world. No foreign power, regardless of its might, would be able to wipe them from the face of the earth, for they had a date with destiny! When you experience salvation, you become part of "God's very own, holy and pure priests of the King" (1 Peter 2:9-10). No matter what your status on earth, you have been especially "chosen" for a privileged position in the family of God! When was the last time you told your Father in heaven, "Thanks for including me"? Wouldn't now be a good time to do exactly that?

Prayer
Oh Lord, we come before you confessing our sins and with prayers of praise for our Almighty God. We want to thank you for all your blessings, goodness and comfort you bestow on us each day during our journey through this life and for choosing us to take this journey through the road less traveled. We pray for forgiveness of our sins, past, present and future to repent and sin no more. In Jesus name! Amen!
