Day 346

Offering Gifts According to Aaronic Law

Scripture

Observation

Not only is Christ superior to Israel's leaders, he is superior to Israel's priests. Like Aaron, Christ was divinely appointed to the priesthood. But Christ is superior, for his priestly function is without beginning or end, much like the order of Melchizedek (see Genesis 14:1-20). While the Aaronic priests offered sacrifices for their own sins as well as for the sins of the people, Christ lived a sinless life and died once for all time as the eternal sacrifice for men's sins.

Application

Probably you have heard the phrase "quiet time" used to describe a period of undisturbed Bible reading, meditation and prayer. Perhaps you're enjoying just such a "quiet time" right now!

But did you know you can also experience an "unquiet time" with the Lord? Listen to these "noisy" verses from the book of Psalms: "But I will call upon the Lord to save me—and he will. I will pray morning, noon and night, pleading aloud with God; and he will hear and answer" (Psalm 55:16-17).

The psalmist often verbalized his prayers. Now read Hebrews 5:7 and notice that even the Lord Jesus while he was here on earth "pleaded with God, praying with tears and agony of soul." Nothing quiet about that!

Today, for a refreshing change of pace, schedule an "unquiet time" with the Lord. Find a place where you can be alone—and noisy—without causing a distraction.

Then praise God out loud for his unchanging character;  confess your sins verbally one by one; sing a hymn or two audibly extolling his matchless greatness. You'll discover there's no quicker path to a quiet soul than by making a joyful noise!

Prayer

We praise you, loving Father, for the knowledge we have that we can pray to you anywhere and at any time. We call on you because you are the Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on you. All people need what you have and what only prayer can give. Just like we pray everywhere, we also pray for others—believers and unbelievers alike—everywhere that there is a promise for all who call upon you for pardon, mercy and help. Thank you for loving us so much that you made a way for all to receive eternity through our Savior, Jesus Christ! In his name we pray! Amen!

Eternity with Christ!
