Day 344

Angels Worship Him! |
Hebrews Introduction
Observation
Becoming a first-century convert to Christianity could definitely be "hazardous to your health." Often it meant persecution and isolation. Many Jewish converts sought to avoid those painful consequences by retreating back into Old Testament Judaic practices. In order to urge these believers to continue steadfast in their newfound faith, the writer of Hebrews emphasizes the superiority of Christ over all else—including the Judaic system. Christ is superior to the Old Testament prophets because he is the Son of God. He is superior to the angels because they worship him. He became human in order to die for sinful humanity. To reject him is to reject hope itself.
Application
Imagine someone approaching you on the street, thrusting a microphone into your face, and asking, "Who, in your opinion, is Jesus Christ?" How would you respond? What evidence could you give to support your conviction that Jesus was more than a good man?
Most heresies and cults today begin with a wrong or unbalanced view of the person of Jesus Christ. Thus Hebrews—a book written to reveal who Jesus is and what he has done—would be a good place to begin when looking for answers to the question, "Why is Jesus Christ history's most unique personality?"
Here is an exercise for you to tackle when you have some extra time today. Divide a sheet of paper in half. Label the left side "What Jesus is like" (his personality) and the right "What Jesus has done" (his activity). Review today's reading, looking for statements describing the person and work of Christ, and jot them down in the appropriate column. Then share the results of your study with a friend or family member who is seriously considering the claims of Christ. It might be just the evidence he or she needs to place personal trust in him!
Prayer
Thank you for the great gift of prayer. We can face every situation in life through our prayers to you. You will answer us and comfort us who believe Jesus Christ is above all. Just like the Jews spoken about in the book of Hebrews attached great importance in Angels by quoting that "Every blade of grass has its angel", we have you the God of hope to fill us with all joy and peace as we trust in you so that we may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are grateful for the universality of prayer that no matter what we are experiencing in our walk through this life we need not face them without prayer as a helper, a comforter and as our guide. We pray for your will be done in our life in Jesus' name! Amen!
