Day 299

Born Again!—Nicodemus and Jesus |
John Introduction
Observation
John writes with a specific goal in mind: to place the life of Jesus Christ in such a light that it will be unmistakably clear who he is (the Son of God) and how new life can be found in him (20:30-31). With this in view, John carefully selects events from Christ's earthly life and ministry, building a case for his deity that is difficult to refute. He begins in eternity past, showing how Christ (who was one with God, 1:1) became a man in order to take his message of life to mankind. John describes selected men and women (the disciples, Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman by the well) and the life-changing transformation that Jesus brings.
Application
"Being born again" has become a popular phrase today, even in nonreligious circles. But a lot of fuzzy thinking exists about exactly what being born again means.
A popular singer climbs to the top of a mountain, gazes at the incredible vista below, and declares that he has been "born again." Is being born again simply a "Rocky Mountain high"?
An athlete, hobbled by a troublesome injury, undergoes successful surgery and exclaims that his career has been "born again." Is being born again simply a thousand-yard season?
John 3:16—perhaps the best known and best loved verse in the Bible—says "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Being born again is believing in God's son, Jesus Christ, to save you. Read
John 5:24. Do you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior? If you answer yes, you are born again!
Prayer
Lord, we are missionaries in witnessing through the power of the Holy Spirit proclaiming Jesus Christ as your son to the entire world. Thank you for igniting the fire of enthusiasm, passion and eagerness in our heart so that we will bring you glory and honor. We praise you for this privilege to witness for you especially during these dark times as people don't know which way to turn—try Jesus! Thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit in Jesus' name! Amen!
