September 7— Psalm 93: Everything Under Control

Reflection

Daniel, Hosea, Joel—three more prophets on your pathway through God's Word. Each obeyed God without question, even when he seemed to ask the questionable! For instance, Hosea illustrates the situation between God and Israel by marrying a promiscuous woman. And yet through that he is able to show God's loving discipline and ultimate acceptance of his people.

Clearly, God is in control. His Prophets knew that. Do you? Let's worship our Almighty God together by pausing to ponder Psalm 93.

Only God!

God is the Supreme Ruler today and always has been! That is just another way of saying God is almighty. Nothing that happened in the past, is going on in the present, or will happen in the future takes him by surprise.

The writer of Psalm 93 knew this truth. His confidence was in God, the King who is robed in majesty and strength (v. 1), has reigned from the everlasting past (v. 2), and is mightier than all the breakers pounding on the seashores (v. 4). And because God is the Supreme Ruler, his words can be trusted. "Your royal decrees cannot be changed" (v. 5). They are certain, they will stand the test of time; you can build your life on them.

Here's a good way to remind ourselves frequently of that truth. Write out this little formula and carry it with you: "I am HIS and He is Almighty." Then trust your Supreme Ruler in your life!

Prayer

Lord, we pray back to you the phrases of Psalm 93. Indeed, our confidence is in you and you alone. We are yours, and you are our loving Almighty God. We rest in that fact today and always. We trust you in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen!
