Day 162

Take it to the Cross! |
Scripture
Observation
God is the righteous Judge (50), those who call themselves his people must view wickedness from his perspective. Sin is something to be confessed and forsaken (51), the tongue is often a tool of wickedness (52); the pursuit of evil is folly (53); but God is the loving Helper and Upholder of those who rely on him (54).
Application
Here are some wise words about fools: "If fifty million people say foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing." "A fool and his money are soon parted. Then again, a fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place!" "No one can make a fool out of a person if he isn't the right kind of material for the job."
We smile at such humorous maxims. But here is another wise statement about fools that you dare not take lightly: "Only a fool would say to himself, 'There is no God" (53:1).
Only a fool would deny the existence of God, the problem of sin and the need for a Savior. Paul picks up this theme in Romans 3:10-12 to show that sin is the universal malignancy of mankind. "No one is good—no one in all the world is innocent. No one has ever really followed God's paths, or even truly wanted to. Every one has truly turned away; all have gone wrong." That's why it's so important to be sure you have the righteousness of God which is "by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like" (3:22). Only a fool would try to make it on his own merits when the way has already been provided by God.
How about you? Have you wisely reached out to Jesus Christ as your Savior or foolishly sought to save yourself? If you've never come to Christ, come to him today in simple believing faith. There is no other way except through Jesus Christ.

Prayer
Dear heavenly Father, we know that we cannot live on bread alone, but rather on every word that comes from Your mouth—Your Word! Thank you so much for coming into us with your great power to save us and for your grace and mercy each day. In Jesus name, amen!
