Day 157

Fear Not! |
Scripture
Observation
What is God like? How would you describe him to someone who had never heard about him? One good way would be to itemize the ways in which he works in your life. For example, he is your Teacher to instruct you (25), your Judge to acquit you (26), your Salvation to save you (27), and your Uplifter to rescue you (30).
Application
On a scale of one to ten, with one being low and ten high, how would you rate you "fear quotient" on the following?
- Fear of standing before a large group.
- Fear of snakes, lizards, and small children.
- Fear of the dark.
- Fear of the future.
Fear, like acid, can destroy even the strongest of resolves. That which terrifies you, controls you. But it needn't be that way! God "does not want you to be afraid of people, but to be wise and strong, and to love them and enjoy being with them"
(2 Timothy 1:7).
David knew what it was to be afraid of the dark, afraid of the future, afraid of the enemies encamped all around him. But he learned the secret of overcoming those fears. Do you know what it is? Not denying he had them, but relying on Someone bigger than they were! Take a look at
Psalm 27:1, and there you'll discover what David found: the Lord is the cure for what intimidates you! He has light to dispel your darkness and strength to replace your weakness. And you, like David, have the privilege of drawing upon those resources today. David took God at his word
(27:5); will you?
Prayer
We thank you, God, for the inward assurance given by Your Holy Spirit that we are Your children and you didn't put the spirit of fear in us. We are trusting you to deliver us from any uncomfortable situation that we might get ourselves into and to instruct us, protect us and prosper us according to your will. We are so careful to give you the honor, glory and praise. In Jesus name! Amen!
