Day 112
Reflection
The books of Chronicles provide a divine perspective on the lives of David and Solomon. Theirs were full lives of faith and of failure. But a truth we can glimpse from their lives—as well as from Psalm 39—is the importance of living each day fully for the Lord, as if it were our last.
Today, stop and rest for a while in this psalm of David, in which he speaks openly and frankly to God about his life, acknowledging it as but a breath or a shadow. Learn a lesson from his prayer, and make it your own.

Make the Most of Life!
"Live each day as if it were your last." If it helps us to remember, perhaps it would it be a good idea to tape this slogan on the ceiling of our room directly over the bed? The phrase will be the first thing we see every day, and the last thing we read every night. David pens a similar sentiment in Psalm 39, acknowledging that he is only a passing guest on planet earth. The psalmist begins by speaking hot words of displeasure against God until he realizes that the God he is finding fault with is the God who holds David's very existence in his hands. Confessing his sinfulness, David casts himself on God as the only One who can give meaning to life, be it long or short.
What if you knew that today was your last day? How would that knowledge change your attitude toward God? Your prayer life? You business dealings? Complete this statement: Lord, because my days are few, today I will..."

Prayer
Our everlasting Father, Abba—we pray with David that you would help us to realize how brief our time on earth will be. Let us channel our energies into your pursuits, spending our time wisely and not wasting it on selfish trivialities or destructive sins. We want to walk with you in harmony and joy. Use us, Lord, use us to the fullest extent. Make our life count for you. In the name of Jesus our Lord. Amen.
