Day 74

Heaven the Glory of God!

Weekly Devotional

March 14— Psalm 19: God's World and God's Word

Reflection

The era of the judges dawns, and in the past week you've met some of the most colorful yet rarely studied characters of the Bible. Deborah, Gideon, Samson, and others preside over a nation that is degenerating into a morass of sinful selfishness. And yet the story of Ruth stands out as a beacon of hope and love, reminding us that no matter what our circumstances may be, God remains faithful to his children.

At the same time, he desires his children to be faithful to him by obeying his Word. Today as we pause on our daily walk through the Bible, let's focus on David's majestic thoughts about God's Word found in Psalm 19, and allow his praises to rejuvenate our appreciation for the great Book we're reading.

The Bible Lights up our Life!

It takes a perceptive eye to see what God has revealed about himself in nature, but the message is persistent and potent: there is a great and glorious God.

And yet, there is more that God desires to reveal about himself—elements of his character and his plan that nature alone is incapable of communicating. So he wrote them in a book, the Bible, for all to read and understand. Put them together and you have a two-volume commentary on "Everything God Always Wanted You to Know about Himself." Volume I: God's World; Volume II: God's Word.

In verses 7-11, David uses five descriptive adjectives (perfect, pure, eternal, just, desirable) and six statements of what the Word of God can do in your life (protect, make wise, give joy, give light, warn, give success). Complete this sentence using each of the eleven elements listed above. "Because the Word of God is ____, I will ____." (Example: "Because the Word of God is perfect, I will trust what it says. Because the Word of God protects, I will seek its comfort and safety.")

Prayer

Dear God, because your word is always light-giving in every circumstance of our life we will always refer to it and honor it in our daily walk. Thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to touch our eyes and now we see. In Jesus name, amen!

The Word is Light-giving!
