Seventh-day Devotional
January 7— Our Weekly Bible Reflection and Guaranteed Happiness
Reflection
I am excited about our spiritual walk through God’s Word! Already we have read about God’s masterful creation of the universe, the first sin and its spread throughout humanity, Noah and his ark, the Tower of Babel and the scattering of the nations and God’s promise to Abraham to make him a father of a nation that is very special to Him.
We will take this opportunity to direct our hearts to worship the Author of the great book we are reading each day. We will spend some quiet time mediating on His word and praising and worshiping Him in prayer. The portion of Scripture that best enables us to do this is the Psalms. We don’t have to hurry through the seventh-day devotionals. Instead, let’s take this opportunity to rest in our Savior’s arms because we are not just reading through the Bible this year; we are beginning a walk with God Himself. ..a walk that will last a lifetime, forever!
Happiness
Psalm 1 describes how we are guaranteed happiness in our daily walk with God. It describes what to avoid if you want to be happy—the lifestyle of the ungodly. Then it goes on to describe the positive side—truly happy people are those who delight in doing everything God wants them to do and day and night are mediating on His word thinking about ways to follow Him more closely. The more we soak up and mediate upon God’s word, the more we grow into a beautiful and fruitful tree for God’s glory. And, this is true and guaranteed happiness.
Prayer
Holy Father, we want to be well rooted in your word, soaking up your truth so that it would overflow into our daily life. As we start our walk through your word this year help us draw nourishment from our readings, growing stronger as a mighty tree by a flowing brook. Above all, help us to be fruitful for you. Thank you for taking our hands and leading the way into your loving arms. In your son’s Jesus name! Amen!
